Woman ‘kissed’ dying man after stabbing him, then begged friend to tell cops he committed suicide

A Wisconsin woman, Samantha Jean Krebs, 39, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide after allegedly stabbing her fiancé, described in court documents as J.J.C., in the chest on July 18 at an apartment in Appleton.

Court documents revealed that after the stabbing, Krebs attempted to convince witnesses to tell the police that J.J.C. had stabbed himself.

Krebs, who has a long criminal record, appeared in court on Monday, where she was given a $1 million bond. Witnesses J.R.P. and C.L.C., a couple who thought they were visiting Krebs for a casual evening, instead found J.J.C. bleeding in the kitchen with Krebs standing over him.

J.R.P. recalled walking into the apartment and seeing the victim, reacting in shock. According to the criminal complaint, Krebs immediately told the witnesses to lie to the police, saying, “Just tell the cops J.J.C. stabbed himself,” because she didn’t want to go back to prison.

Krebs reportedly left the scene after kissing J.J.C., telling him she loved him. The witnesses described her demeanor as calm, though slightly panicked, and noted that she had asked for help finding her wallet and keys before driving away in a vehicle without license plates.

Authorities later found Krebs at the home of another witness, J.F.H., who had previously helped J.J.C. get VA benefits and mental health treatment. When police arrived, J.F.H. questioned why Krebs was being arrested, to which she reportedly responded, “I just watched my fiancé kill himself and now I’m being arrested.”

Krebs’ criminal history includes numerous convictions dating back to 2011 for offenses such as battery, drug possession (including meth, cocaine and heroin), and injury by negligent use of a weapon or explosive.

In the investigation following the stabbing, police discovered handwritten notes in Krebs’ possession. These notes expressed her grief over the incident and revealed details of her relationship with J.J.C., including wedding plans. In one note, she wrote about their upcoming wedding date and her disbelief over the situation, saying, “I lost my fiancé, my life…we had just set a wedding date for June 26th.”

Another note contained Krebs’ version of the events leading up to J.J.C.’s death. She described how J.J.C. had been holding a knife and how the situation escalated quickly. She claimed that she didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation until she saw blood and J.J.C. began to panic.

Krebs initially told police that she learned about J.J.C.’s death through the newspaper but later changed her story, saying she had witnessed him take his own life.
