The Sandra Birchmore Case Details Get Even Worse With New Revelations

38-year-old William Farwell, the twin brother of former Massachusetts police officer Matthew Farwell, had sex with 22-year-old Sandra Birchmore just 22 days before her death, fully aware that she was pregnant with his brother’s child.

Chilling text messages between William and Birchmore indicate the two engaged in sexual activity in the parking lot of her Canton apartment on January 10, 2021. This happened about a month after William learned Birchmore was pregnant with Matthew’s baby in December 2020, according to investigators.

Birchmore was found dead in her apartment on February 4, 2021. Her death was initially ruled a suicide, but three years later, in August, Matthew Farwell was charged with her murder.

Prosecutors accused him of staging the crime scene to make her death appear as a suicide. Investigators found that Matthew and Birchmore had a years-long sexual relationship, beginning when she was underage in a youth law enforcement program run by the Stoughton Police Department, where both Farwell brothers served as counselors.

Birchmore had joined the program at age 13, and both William and Matthew had worked closely with her.

Investigators found that Matthew began raping her at that age. The sexual assault continued for years, and when Birchmore became pregnant in 2020 and threatened to expose him for his actions, Matthew allegedly had her murdered to keep her quiet.

While only Matthew has been charged with engaging in an “unlawful sexual relationship” with Birchmore while she was a minor, both William and Robert Devine, the director of the youth program, were accused of molesting her in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Birchmore’s family.

All three officers, including Devine, resigned from the Stoughton Police Department in 2022 after being implicated in the scandal. None of the men, aside from Matthew, have faced criminal charges.

Court records further revealed that William Farwell misled investigators about his relationship with Birchmore. Evidence later surfaced that William had maintained a sexual relationship with her for two years, starting when she turned 20.

The investigation found sexually explicit messages between William and Birchmore, and it was discovered that William had conducted multiple searches on their names in police criminal databases as early as 2017, raising concerns about potential misuse of his position.

In the months before her death, Birchmore became pregnant and believed Matthew Farwell was the father of her unborn child. Matthew denied the paternity claim, but text messages showed that the two had been discussing the possibility of having a child together.
