Pelosi slams Trump, calling him a ‘vile creature’ who has ruined the Constitution
Washington, D.C. – On Monday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) slammed President Donald Trump in a CNN interview, calling him a “vile creature” and “the worst thing on the face of the earth,” while defending California’s Proposition 50 as a critical tool to counter his influence and reclaim the U.S. House majority.
As voting begins in the special election for Prop 50, which would redraw congressional districts in the blue state, Pelosi framed the measure as a bulwark against Trump’s policies, accusing him of undermining the Constitution, the Supreme Court, Congress, and press freedoms.
When interviewer Elex Michaelson asked if Trump was “the worst thing on the face of the earth,” Pelosi affirmed, “I do, yeah. I do.” She elaborated, “Because he’s the president of the United States, and he does not honor the Constitution… He’s turned the Supreme Court into a rogue court. He’s abolished the House of Representatives. He’s chilled the press. He’s scared people who are in our country legally.”
Pelosi’s comments echo her long-standing criticism of Trump, including his role in the January 6, Capitol riot and Supreme Court appointments, per The New York Times.
Pelosi did not confirm re-election plans for her San Francisco district but expressed confidence, stating, “I have no doubt that if I decided to run, I would win. That isn’t even a question. It isn’t arrogant, it’s confident.” Her focus remains on Democrats retaking the House, saying, “My only reason I’m in Congress this term is to win the House for the Democrats, to protect us from the poison of the Trump administration.”
Voting is underway in California’s special election for Proposition 50, which would overhaul congressional districts, potentially favoring Democrats in the fight for the 2026 House majority.
Critics, including California GOP Chair Jessica Millan Patterson, call it a “power grab” to gerrymander seats. Pelosi defended the measure as a pushback against Trump, noting Michaelson’s observation that she framed it as anti-Trump resistance.
A July 2025 Field Poll shows 52% of Californians support Prop 50, with 42% opposed, citing fairer representation, while opponents warn of partisan bias, per Reuters. The outcome could shift 5-7 House seats toward Democrats.
