Mom wrapped baby in wet blanket, place him close to A.C. as he freezes to death

A tragic incident in Augusta, Georgia, has led to the death of a 3-month-old boy, and three individuals now face charges of second-degree murder and second-degree child cruelty.

Authorities discovered the infant wrapped in a wet blanket, placed next to an air conditioning unit set to a frigid 61 degrees, inside a Budget Inn Express.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office released an arrest report detailing that the child’s mother, 19-year-old September De’Asia Seright, along with 42-year-old Lamisha Diane Seright and 39-year-old Bennie Antonio Nash were all charged in connection with the child’s death.

All three are residents of Washington, Georgia. The specific relationship between the accused individuals has not been disclosed by the authorities.

Deputies were dispatched to the Budget Inn on Gordon Highway in the early hours of August 6, responding to an “unknown situation” just after 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the infant, identified as Josiah Noel Seright, unresponsive. Josiah was immediately transported to Wellstar MCG, a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m.

Further reports indicate that the child had not only been wrapped in a wet blanket but also strapped into a wet car seat. Officials believe he died from hypothermia and respiratory failure.

Details suggest that the boy’s mother allegedly took him into the bathroom while she showered, then left him in the wet blanket by the air conditioning unit. She lay on the hotel room couch while the other two adults lay on the bed.

An autopsy has been scheduled as the investigation continues.

At this time, all three are currently held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Richmond County, with no information available about bond being set.
