How to Download Songs on Spotify – Latest Tips

Downloading songs on Spotify is a fantastic way to ensure you have your favorite music available even when you’re offline. Whether you’re prepping for a long flight or just want to save on data usage, Spotify makes it easy to download your favorite tracks, albums and playlists. This is my step-by-step guide to help you download songs on Spotify, personalized to enhance your experience.

Get Spotify Premium To Download Your Favorite Songs

To download songs on Spotify, you need a Spotify Premium subscription. The Premium plan offers offline listening as one of its key features.

  1. Sign Up for Premium:
    • Open the Spotify app or go to the Spotify website.
    • Click on “Get Premium” and follow the prompts to choose your plan and payment method. Spotify often offers free trial periods for new users, so take advantage of that if available.
  2. Log In: Ensure you’re logged into your Spotify account on your device.

Choose What to Download

You can download individual songs, entire albums, or playlists. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Downloading a Playlist:
    • Navigate to the playlist you want to download.
    • Toggle the “Download” switch at the top of the playlist screen. The songs will begin to download immediately. A green arrow will appear next to each song once the download is complete.
  2. Downloading an Album:
    • Go to the album you want to download.
    • Tap the “Download” button below the album’s title. Just like with playlists, a green arrow will appear next to each song once the download is complete.
  3. Downloading Individual Songs: Spotify doesn’t currently allow the downloading of individual songs directly. However, you can add the songs to a playlist and then download the playlist as described above.

Managing Your Downloads

  1. Check Download Status:
    • Go to the “Your Library” section in Spotify.
    • Tap on “Playlists” or “Albums” to see which ones are downloaded. Look for the green arrow icon indicating that the content is available offline.
  2. Organize Your Music: Create and curate playlists to keep your downloaded music organized. You can create themed playlists, travel playlists, or even mood-specific playlists.
  3. Download on Multiple Devices: With Spotify Premium, you can download music on up to three devices. Make sure you log in to your account on each device and follow the same steps to download your music.

Enjoy Offline Listening

  1. Switch to Offline Mode:
    • Go to “Settings” in the Spotify app.
    • Scroll down to “Playback” and toggle the “Offline” switch. This ensures that Spotify only plays downloaded content, which is useful for saving data or when you know you won’t have internet access.
  2. Enjoy Your Music: Now, you can listen to your downloaded songs, albums, and playlists anytime, anywhere. Whether you’re on a plane, in a remote area, or simply saving data, your music is always at your fingertips.

Additional Tips for a Better Experience

  1. Regularly Update Downloads: Spotify periodically requires you to go online to verify your subscription. Make sure to connect to the internet occasionally to keep your downloads active.
  2. Manage Storage: Downloading a lot of music can take up significant storage space. Check your device’s storage settings to manage your downloads and free up space if needed.
  3. High-Quality Downloads: For better sound quality, go to “Settings” > “Music Quality” and select “Very High” under the Download section. Keep in mind that higher quality uses more storage.
  4. Create Collaborative Playlists: Share playlists with friends and make them collaborative. This way, you can download and enjoy a mix of music curated by you and your friends.
  5. Stay Updated with New Releases: Follow your favorite artists to get notifications about new releases. Downloading new albums and singles ensures you’re always up to date with the latest music.
