Gymnast and Math Teacher in Hot Water Over Shameful Act
A gymnast and math teacher was sentenced after she sexually abused two male students, leaving a love bite on the first and becoming pregnant for the second while on bail for the first abuse.
Rebecca Joynes, 30, a teacher at a high school in Manchester, England, was sentenced for sexually abusing two students. Her reason was that she had become “lonely after a long-term relationship ended during the COVID-19 lockdown” and found herself “flattered” by the attention from teenage boys.
In April, Joynes was found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with children after she had sex with the first student before becoming pregnant with the child of the second student while out on bail.
Judge Kate Cornell, who sentenced Joynes on Thursday following a two-week trial said to her: “There is a breathtaking arrogance in your conduct. You were the adult.“
“You were the person in control, the person who should have known better and entrusted by the school and the boys and by their parents of caring for their sons. Instead, you abused that position of trust and exploited the privileged role for your own sexual gratification.”
HOW IT WENT DOWN WIRH THE BOYS
Due to the psychological and traumatic experiences, Joynes victims were named “Boy A” and “Boy B” and were 15 and 16 years old when the sexual assault happened.
Joynes groomed both boys with attention. She enticed Boy A with a new Gucci belt, then lured him to her house, where they had sex twice. “No one had better find out,” Joynes warned the boy, adding that she didn’t want to jeopardize her “dream” job.
However, Joynes left a trace as the mother of Boy A found a love bite on her son’s neck, eventually calling the police. Following an investigation, Joynes was suspended and while out on bail, she wasted no time at all and began sexually assaulting Boy B.
HOW IT WENT DOWN WITH BOY B
In the letter sent to Boy B earlier, Joynes writes, “Every inch of you is perfect. You are all I ever dream about.”
In order to set the stage well for her illicit activities, Joynes invited Boy B to her home for a “date night,” which involved a scratch card of sexual activities.
The Post reported that Joynes became pregnant and gave birth to the child earlier this year. The child was taken away within 24 hours of their birth.
In the court, Boy B said, “I questioned if I was right to give statements about the woman who was carrying my child, since then I have replayed a lot of things in my head, and spoken to a lot of people, and it has made me realize the full extent of the abuse carried out on me and the tactics that were used to do so. I now also really struggle with the idea of going into another relationship, due to the negative experience I have gone through with Joynes.”
“Ultimately, I will forever be Joynes’ victim and forever linked to her through our child,” Boy B told the court.
In the courtroom, Boy B’s father shared that Joynes “manipulated, controlled, coerced and sexually abused” his son, adding that the abuse “tore my family apart.”
Joynes being unrepentant, told the court she had ruined her “dream job,” adding that she did nothing wrong.
Judge Cornell told Joynes during the sentencing that, “It may be asked what 15-year-old boy would not want to have sex with an older, attractive teacher? Surely they would be up for it? How can this be a crime?” Well, Ms Joynes, there is no doubt this is a crime. Both boys were very much victims, obviously unworldly and vulnerable to the advances from an older, attractive woman.”
“You felt buoyed and boosted by their attention. You were the one with the car, the flat, the money, the life experience,” the judge continued. “There’s no real insight from you, you continue to deny the offenses and have been silent on the distressing impact on these boys.”
