Dad who got angry at 8-year-old when he ‘pooped his pants’ shot dead by mom while on porch

A Florida woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting the father of her child after an argument escalated over their son’s incident.

39-year-old Laurie Adams pleaded guilty to first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm in the death of 51-year-old Adel Tawfeek. The fatal shooting took place on June 5 at their home in Winter Springs, north of Orlando.

According to police, the confrontation began when Tawfeek became angry after discovering that their 8-year-old son, who has autism, had “pooped in his pants.” He reportedly yelled at both the child and Adams. After cleaning up their son and putting him to bed, Adams said Tawfeek continued his outburst, pushing her against a wall before stepping outside with a beer.

Approximately 15 minutes later, Adams retrieved Tawfeek’s gun from his bedroom closet, loaded it, and walked onto the porch. She saw Tawfeek smoking and, without hesitation, fired a single shot to his head.

Officers responding to a shooting call found Tawfeek critically wounded on the back porch. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

Authorities also discovered text messages Adams had sent to her mother days earlier, asking her to take care of her son “if anything were to happen,” raising questions about possible premeditation.

Her guilty plea led to an immediate 25-year prison sentence.
