Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing 7-Year-Old Son Over Messy Home

A 26-year-old woman in Chicago has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery to a child after allegedly stabbing her 7-year-old son with a kitchen knife in response to him making a mess in their home overnight.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, May 18, in the 1700 block of West Touhy Street.

The suspect, Llovana Torres, reportedly became enraged after discovering her apartment in disarray, despite having cleaned it the previous night.

Court documents filed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office allege that Torres struck the boy several times. In an attempt to escape, the child reportedly ran into the kitchen and hid inside the cabinet under the sink. When Torres was unable to pull him out, she allegedly retrieved a silver kitchen knife and began stabbing into the cabinet area until she heard the boy cry out in pain.

Prosecutors said the child sustained a stab wound to the abdomen. Torres then carried him downstairs to her mother’s apartment, where her mother insisted she take the boy to the hospital immediately.

Torres complied, and the child was initially taken to Evanston Hospital before being airlifted to a children’s medical facility for emergency surgery. He suffered a ruptured diaphragm and required multiple sutures. As of Monday, the child remained hospitalized, with a chest tube and ventilator in place.

Law enforcement officers interviewed both Torres’ mother and her 11-year-old cousin. The cousin allegedly overheard Torres telling her mother that she warned the child she would “cut or stab him” if he did not come out of the cabinet.

After her arrest, Torres was also accused of instructing her mother to lie about the incident.

During a post-Miranda interview, Torres reportedly told detectives she “accidentally” stabbed her son while “waving the knife around” in an attempt to locate him. She identified the knife used in the incident, which was subsequently recovered by investigators.
