Trump Moans ‘My Friends Will Get Hurt’ Over Threats to Expose Epstein Accomplices in Damning Report
In a revealing New York Times profile published Sunday, retiring Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) disclosed the decisive rupture in her once-close alliance with President Donald Trump, pinpointing his resistance to full disclosure of Jeffrey Epstein files as the breaking point.
Greene recounted a heated phone call in which Trump allegedly warned that releasing more details would “hurt” his friends, rejecting her suggestion to invite Epstein victims to the Oval Office and declaring they had done nothing to “merit the honor.”
The nearly 7,600-word feature chronicles Greene’s two terms in Congress and her decision to step away, but the Epstein segment stands out for its candid portrayal of Trump’s defensiveness and Greene’s evolving skepticism toward a figure she once championed unwaveringly.
From Blind Loyalty to Growing Doubts
Greene told the Times she initially dismissed concerns about Trump’s Epstein ties as overblown.
“The story to me was that I’d seen pictures of Epstein with all these people, and Trump is just one of several,” she said. “And then, for me, I’d seen that Bill Clinton is on the flight logs for his plane like 20-something times. So, for people like me, it wasn’t suspicious, and then we’d heard the general stories of how Epstein used to be a member of Mar-a-Lago, but Trump kicked him out. Why would I think he’s done anything wrong, right?”

Greene’s perspective shifted after a closed-door House Oversight Committee meeting with Epstein survivors. Though Greene has no personal history of sexual abuse, she said she knew women who did and found the victims’ accounts credible and “surprisingly inspiring.”
“In her own small way, Greene later told me, she could understand what it was like for a woman to stand up to a powerful man,” the Times reported.
Following the hearing, Greene held a news conference threatening to identify alleged abusers, saying she could obtain names from victims if needed.
The Explosive Phone Call
The threat prompted an immediate, angry response from Trump, according to Greene and a staff member present.
“Greene was in her Capitol Hill office, and according to a staff member, everyone in the suite of rooms could hear him yelling at her as she listened to him on speakerphone,” the report states.
Greene expressed confusion over Trump’s opposition. According to her account, Trump replied: “My friends will get hurt.”
When she suggested inviting victims to the Oval Office, Trump reportedly rejected the idea outright, insisting they had done nothing to deserve such recognition.
“It would be the last conversation Greene and Trump would ever have,” the Times noted.

The profile traces Greene’s arc from QAnon-adjacent firebrand stripped of committee assignments in 2021 to a more mainstream, if still polarizing, figure who helped push the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Her retirement announcement cited frustration with gridlock, but the Epstein fallout appears to have crystallized deeper disillusionment.
Greene’s willingness to air private grievances with Trump—once unthinkable—signals shifting loyalties in the MAGA ecosystem. Her account portrays Trump as prioritizing personal connections over victim accountability, a narrative likely to resonate with critics while infuriating loyalists.
The White House has not commented on Greene’s recollections. Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in relation to Epstein, emphasizing their falling-out years before Epstein’s arrest.
