Texas Youth Ministry Volunteer Sentenced for Molesting Son’s 13-Year-Old Friend

Rockwall County, TX — A former youth ministry volunteer who smiled in her mugshot after being arrested for molesting her son’s 13-year-old friend has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Natalie Sorrells, 46, was convicted by a Rockwall County jury on two counts of indecent sexual contact with a minor. The abuse began in April 2023 and continued for more than a year, according to court documents.

The victim told police Sorrells molested him on several occasions, including once in her car after a football game and another time during a party at her home held for her son. The abuse came to light after the victim’s mother discovered deleted text messages from Sorrells on her son’s phone, prompting the boy to eventually disclose the abuse to her and investigators with the Heath Department of Public Safety.

At the time, Sorrells was employed as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Apex and volunteered in the youth ministry at Lakepointe Church. In a statement released after her arrest, the church said:

“While it is our current understanding that no inappropriate activity occurred on church premises or at any church event, and that the minor involved was not under the direct leadership of the volunteer, out of an abundance of caution we immediately informed Lakepointe parents, restricted the volunteer from any access to minors at the church, and removed her from her volunteer position.”

Sorrells was first charged in September 2024, but was not taken into custody until February 2025. She was released on a $100,000 bond but was returned to custody after her conviction to await prison placement.

She was sentenced to 30 months for each count, to be served consecutively. Jurors acquitted her on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. If found guilty on those charges, she could have faced a minimum of 25 years due to the in prison because the victim was under the age of 14 and she was accused of supplying the minor with alcohol, which would qualify under Texas penal code as a “substance capable of impairing the victim’s ability to appraise the nature of the act or to resist the act.”
