Son shoots disabled father in the face over ‘heated argument’ about his stinky feet
An Iowa man is accused of shooting his father in the face following an argument that started over a remark about stinky feet.
Burlington police responded to the incident at a home on Monarch Drive, where they found the suspect, 48-year-old David Carpenter, waiting outside. He admitted to officers that he had shot his father.
The victim, William Carpenter, was found inside the home and rushed to the hospital with injuries that, fortunately, were not life-threatening.
The bizarre altercation began in the living room, where William Carpenter allegedly told his son that his feet stinks, according to David’s statement to the police.
This comment escalated into a “heated argument” about broader family issues. At one point, William allegedly made a comment about shooting David, which led David to retrieve a gun from his bedroom.
David then returned to the living room, where his father was seated in a motorized scooter, and continued yelling about guns. According to the criminal complaint, David claimed that he had the firearm hidden behind his back and, while arguing, accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his father in the face.
The victim later confirmed his son’s account when interviewed by detectives at the hospital. Police also noted that two children under the age of 14 were in the home, watching TV, at the time of the shooting.
