Social media influencer who said she was ‘from the future’ with a ‘crystal ball’ had gas pedal at ‘100%’ in fatal crash

A social media influencer from Miami Gardens, Florida, is now facing a slew of additional charges following a fatal car crash that claimed two lives.

24-year-old Maecee Marie Lathers was initially arrested on August 11 and accused of driving her Mercedes at high speed while under the influence of a drug known as “pink cocaine.”

The crash occurred on August 10 when Lathers allegedly ran a red light at North Miami Avenue around 7 a.m., colliding with a Range Rover and causing both vehicles to crash into a Suzuki.

Witnesses at the scene prevented Lathers from fleeing, and when police arrived, she was vomiting and admitted to being high on a drug called “tusi,” a ketamine-based substance often referred to as “pink cocaine.”

According to the National Library of Medicine, “tusi” is a phonetic name for the drug “2C,” which typically appears as pink powder. Lathers also made bizarre claims to the police, stating she was “from the future” and possessed a “crystal ball.”

Investigations revealed that Lathers, originally from Fort Plain, New York, was driving at 57 mph just before the collision, with her “accelerator at 100%,” causing her vehicle to reach 78 mph at the moment of impact.

Authorities also noted that Lathers did not have a valid driver’s license at the time, as it had been suspended.

The crash resulted in the deaths of two people inside the Suzuki. Abraham Ismael, the driver, was extricated from the wreckage but later died at the hospital. A passenger seated in the rear of the Suzuki died instantly.

Ismael’s wife, Juanita Hernandez, who was in the front passenger seat, survived but was left unable to work due to her injuries. She later wrote on a GoFundMe page about the devastating impact on their family, especially on their 16-year-old son, who lost his father.

Lathers was initially charged with eight felony counts, including two counts of leaving the scene of a crash causing death. During her first court appearance on August 16, Judge Mindy Glazer deemed her “an absolute danger to the community,” noting that Lathers would have fled if not for the intervention of witnesses.

On August 22, additional charges were added, including two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of reckless driving, bringing the total number of charges against Lathers to twelve.

Despite the serious charges, Judge Glazer agreed to place Lathers on house arrest if she could post a $140,000 bond. The judge also prohibited her from driving. As of now, Lathers remains under house arrest, with her next court appearance scheduled for September 3.

Her attorney has not commented on the case.
