Police officer caught passed out at stoplight with meth pipe in hand inside cruiser
In Mississippi, authorities have arrested officer James Lee Jackson, 41, after finding him allegedly passed out in his patrol car with a meth pipe in his hand.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on a Saturday, when officers from the Yazoo City Police Department were dispatched to investigate a vehicle idling at a stoplight.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the vehicle was not just any car but a marked police cruiser from the Belzoni Police Department, a small town approximately 25 miles north of Yazoo City.
Inside the car, officers found Jackson, who appeared to be unconscious and holding a pipe commonly used for drug consumption. The officers tried to rouse Jackson, but he was initially unresponsive.
After several attempts, they were finally able to wake him up and remove him from the vehicle. Once out of the car, it became clear that Jackson was indeed holding a pipe typically used to smoke methamphetamine or other narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, officers also found a small bag of marijuana.
According to police reports, Jackson refused to submit to any field sobriety tests or to allow officers to collect blood or urine samples, which could have provided further evidence of intoxication. Although he made no significant statements to officers, Jackson was displaying clear signs of impairment.
As a result, Jackson was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI refusal. He was taken to Yazoo City Jail, where he was processed before bonding out. However, authorities indicated that Jackson may face additional charges as the investigation continues.
The Belzoni Police Department, which serves a small community of fewer than 2,000 residents in west-central Mississippi, has not yet provided a comment on Jackson’s arrest or his current employment status.

The department, which is made up of roughly 10 officers, did not clarify whether Jackson was on duty at the time of the incident, nor has it addressed the circumstances that led to Jackson being in Yazoo City, which is outside of his normal jurisdiction.
Additionally, it is unclear how long Jackson has been employed with the Belzoni Police Department.
