Man Shoots 2-Year-Old Girl Riding with Family in Road Rage Incident

A 50-year-old Dallas man, Jason Cain, was arrested and is currently in custody after a road rage incident left a 2-year-old girl shot and severely injured. The shooting took place on Sunday night around 8 p.m. on Sweetwater Drive in east Dallas, near the Forest Hills neighborhood.

Cain faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of intentionally causing serious bodily injury to a child, according to Dallas County jail records.

The Dallas Police Department reported that the incident began when a family, out on a Door Dash delivery, encountered a man on a motorcycle who was riding without lights in the dark. The family’s car swerved to avoid the motorcycle and honked, leading to an exchange of words between the two drivers.

Cain, who was on the motorcycle, then turned around, followed the family’s vehicle and fired two shots into their car. One of the bullets struck the 2-year-old girl in the abdomen, where it ricocheted off her ribs and lodged in her diaphragm.

A witness, who lives on the street where the shooting occurred, heard the gunfire and rushed outside to help. She described seeing the toddler drenched in blood and told the family to drive immediately to a hospital while she called 911.

The girl was taken to a local hospital, treated and is now reported to be in stable condition.

Police were able to identify Cain as the suspect through witness testimony and video evidence. Multiple witnesses described seeing a motorcycle with a sidecar, accompanied by a dog, following a gray sedan before the shots were fired. This description matched Cain, who was known in the neighborhood for riding his Harley with his dog in the sidecar.

During a search of Cain’s home, police allegedly found Nazi and satanic imagery, as well as a cache of weapons, including rifles and a handgun.

Cain is currently being held in the north tower of the Dallas County jail with a combined bond set at $850,000.
