Man secretly slips abortion drug into pregnant girlfriend’s drink, causing her to lose the baby

A man has been formally charged in relation to the tragic death of his ex-girlfriend’s unborn child, as well as allegations of tampering with evidence on a mobile device seized by law enforcement, officials in Texas announced on Monday.

Justin Anthony Banta is facing charges of attempted capital murder and tampering with physical evidence, according to official records from the Parker County Jail.

In a detailed statement released by the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, authorities revealed that Banta’s former partner accused him of administering “Plan C,” an emergency contraceptive pill, covertly by slipping it into her beverage. This incident allegedly occurred after Banta had attempted to persuade her to terminate her pregnancy.

The victim, who was in a romantic relationship with Banta as of September last year, informed investigators that upon learning of her pregnancy, Banta offered to cover the expenses of an abortion.

He reportedly proposed that they order “Plan C” pills online to terminate the pregnancy. Despite these suggestions, the woman told police she expressed a firm desire to continue with the pregnancy and keep the child.

By October, the victim reported meeting Banta at a local coffee shop in Tarrant County, Texas. During this encounter, she said she suspected that Banta had secretly slipped abortion-inducing medication into her drink without her consent.

The following day, she began experiencing severe symptoms, including pronounced fatigue and heavy bleeding, which compelled her to seek emergency medical treatment.

According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, the victim ultimately suffered a miscarriage on October 19. She strongly believes the loss of her unborn child resulted directly from the unauthorized administration of the drugs by Banta at the coffee shop.

Following these events, law enforcement conducted interviews with Banta and confiscated his cellphone for investigative purposes. However, authorities allege that Banta leveraged his technical expertise to remotely access the device while it was in police custody, forcibly performing a reset that erased critical evidence tied to the case.

Subsequent to these findings, prosecutors secured an arrest warrant for Banta, who was charged with two felony offenses: attempted capital murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Banta was apprehended on Friday and detained at Parker County Jail. Records indicate he was released on bond the same day, with bail set at $500,000 for the attempted murder charge and an additional $20,000 for the evidence tampering charge.
