Man Fatally Shot Girlfriend’s Father In Argument About ‘Inappropriate’ Social Media Posts

An 18-year-old man in Broward County, Florida, has been accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend’s father during an argument about “inappropriate” social media posts.

The suspect, Lawan Jones, allegedly fled the scene with the victim’s daughter but later surrendered to authorities, and the girlfriend is safe, according to the authorities.

Deputies from Broward County Sheriff’s Office and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a shooting call on Monday, near the 1500 block of Northeast 28th Street. They discovered 44-year-old Keith Bryan Poole suffering from multiple gunshot wounds upon arrival.

According to the sheriff’s office, “On scene, emergency crews located the victim, Poole, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.” Poole was immediately transported to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute over social media posts that Jones had allegedly made, which Poole found objectionable. The exact content of these posts and how the argument escalated to a deadly encounter has not been detailed by authorities.

“According to witnesses, the shooting began after Poole became aware of social media posts made by Jones that he thought were inappropriate,” deputies reported. “At some point, witnesses said, Jones started arguing with Poole and shot him.”

Initially, deputies reported that Poole was standing outside his residence when someone he knew began shooting at him. The shooter, later identified as Jones, fled the scene following the incident, leading to a search by law enforcement.

Jones eventually turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday and is now being held at the Broward County Jail without bond. He faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.
