Disturbing Video Shows DHS Officer Kicking Memorial Candle for Renee Nicole Good, Woman Killed by ICE

A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a uniformed Department of Homeland Security officer kicking over a candle at a memorial for Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old Minneapolis mother of three fatally shot by an ICE agent during an operation on January 7.

The officer’s actions—followed by a profane dismissal when confronted have ignited widespread anger, intensifying criticism of federal immigration enforcement tactics and the administration’s handling of the incident.

The clip, first posted on Bluesky and widely reposted on X, depicts the officer—wearing a “Police DHS” patch—walking through an outdoor vigil site with chalk messages on the ground, including Good’s name. He deliberately kicks the lit candle, extinguishing it, before approaching a nearby protester.

When asked what he thought the candle represented, the officer replied: “I don’t give a f—.”

The location of the memorial is unclear, though it appears to be a public sidewalk tribute. It is unknown if the site is in Minnesota, where the shooting occurred.

The Fatal Shooting of Renee Nicole Good

Good, described by family as a compassionate and loving mother, was killed Wednesday when a masked federal agent fired multiple shots into her SUV during an ICE operation in Minneapolis. Video of the incident shows the vehicle continuing forward after the gunfire before colliding with another car.

The Department of Homeland Security claimed Good “weaponized her vehicle,” justifying the agent’s actions as self-defense.

Local officials strongly disputed the characterization. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, at a press conference, called the self-defense narrative “bulls—“: “They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video for myself, I want to tell everybody directly, that is bulls—. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody getting killed.”

Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, told The Minnesota Star Tribune: “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

The shooting occurred amid a targeted DHS operation against undocumented Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, which has drawn protests and accusations of community targeting.

Backlash Against Federal Actions

The memorial video has amplified outrage over the shooting, with activists and community leaders condemning what they see as callous disregard for Good’s life and memory. Protests in Minneapolis have grown, demanding accountability and an independent investigation.

The officer’s behavior—kicking the candle and profane response has been labeled as emblematic of broader insensitivity in federal enforcement. Social media reactions ranged from grief to fury, with users sharing the clip widely and calling for the officer’s identification and discipline.

DHS has not commented on the video or identified the officer. The department previously defended the shooting as justified.

Vigils for Good have sprung up across Minneapolis, with chalk messages, candles, and flowers marking sites of remembrance. Her death has galvanized local immigrant rights groups, who argue the operation reflects aggressive tactics under the Trump administration’s deportation priorities.

Good leaves behind three children. Family and friends describe her as devoted and community-oriented.

As investigations into the shooting continue, the memorial incident has become a rallying point, symbolizing perceived federal overreach and lack of empathy. The fallout shows deepening tensions between federal authorities and local communities over immigration policy, with Good’s death and the memorial desecration ensuring the controversy endures.
