Disgraced Former Teacher Brittany Zamora Takes on New Role as Prison Aerobics Instructor
Brittany Zamora, the former Arizona school teacher convicted of sexually abusing her 13-year-old student, has assumed a new role behind bars as an aerobics instructor for fellow inmates.
Now 33 years old, Zamora is serving a 20-year sentence at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Perryville, where she has reportedly spent nearly six years in custody following her 2019 conviction.
According to inmate recods, Zamora was reassigned in April to lead fitness classes at the all-adult women’s facility. Her new work detail comes shortly after she completed several rehabilitative prison programs, including courses on maintaining family ties, exercising self-control and embracing prosocial values.
Notably, this isn’t Zamora’s first work assignment while incarcerated. In 2021, she was reported to have assisted educational staff in classroom-style sessions for inmates, according to a statement from the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Her responsibilities reportedly involved tutoring inmates in group learning environments, a task that, like her current role, did not involve contact with minors.
Despite the severity of her crimes, Zamora appears to have adapted to prison life. Her most recent mugshot, taken in October 2024, shows her smiling in an orange jumpsuit with her once-blonde hair returned to its natural brown. A necklace is partially visible under her uniform—an unusual but notable detail in standard prison attire.
Zamora had previously expressed fear about her ability to survive in prison due to her small stature. During her arrest, she tearfully told police, “I’m little, they are going to tear me apart” fearing for her safety.
However, records and public photos suggest she has settled into the highly structured environment of Perryville Prison.
Her story made national headlines in 2018 when the then-27-year-old sixth-grade teacher at Las Brisas Academy in Goodyear, Arizona, was arrested for having a sexual relationship with one of her students.
According to court documents, she engaged in multiple sexual acts with the minor, both in her vehicle and within a classroom. In one particularly disturbing instance, Zamora enlisted another student to act as a lookout during one of the encounters.
The abuse was ultimately uncovered after the victim’s parents became suspicious and began monitoring his phone activity through a parental control app. What they discovered led to Zamora’s arrest in March 2018. The student later told authorities that the relationship involved repeated sexual contact over several weeks.
In July 2019, Zamora pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexual conduct with a minor, child molestation (reduced charges), and public sexual indecency. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison with no possibility of early release.
Her personal life also unraveled in the wake of the scandal. In May 2020, Zamora filed for divorce from her husband, Daniel Zamora, stating that their marriage of four years had become “broken beyond repair.”

Though she will not be eligible for release until 2039, Zamora’s current activities suggest she is engaging with prison rehabilitation efforts and actively participating in work programs—steps that may be seen as part of a broader effort to adjust to long-term incarceration.
