Democrats Now Unite to Impeach DHS Secretary Kristi Noem as ICE Terror Skyrockets

Over 80 House Democrats have now co-signed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, accusing her of overseeing “gestapo-style tactics,” reckless leadership, and a pattern of deadly enforcement actions that have left communities devastated and families shattered.

The impeachment measure, introduced by Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.), comes amid spiraling protests and community outrage in Minneapolis following the January 7 fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent, and reflects a rapidly coalescing Democratic effort to hold Noem and the Trump administration accountable for what critics describe as systemic abuses of power.

Kelly announced the growing support on X Thursday, stating: “Noem’s gestapo-style tactics and reckless leadership have left communities and families devastated.”

The bill has quickly gained traction across the Democratic caucus, including full endorsement from Minnesota’s entire House delegation—Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, Betty McCollum, and Kelly Morrison—as well as prominent progressives such as Rashida Tlaib, Maxwell Frost, Eric Swalwell, and Jasmine Crockett.

The impeachment push is directly tied to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of three, who was killed during an ICE operation targeting undocumented Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. Video footage shows federal agents approaching her SUV before multiple shots are fired, after which the vehicle moves forward and collides with another car.

DHS has defended the agent, claiming self-defense and alleging Good “weaponized her vehicle.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has rejected that narrative outright, calling it “bulls—” and demanding an independent investigation. Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, described her daughter as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” emphasizing her compassion, devotion to family, and role as a caregiver in the community.

Rather than de-escalating following the shooting, Noem has overseen the deployment of additional untrained ICE goons to Minnesota, further inflaming tensions.

Additional incidents—including a widely circulated video of agents dragging a disabled woman from her car and arrests of restaurant workers hours after agents dined at their establishment—have compounded public outrage and accusations of intimidation and profiling.

Key Supporters and Their Statements

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a frequent target of Trump’s rhetoric, linked her support directly to Good’s death: “Renee Nicole Good should be alive. We’ll continue to fight until we achieve real justice and accountability. That begins with impeaching Kristi Noem and ensuring no federal agent can act as judge, jury, and executioner in our streets.”

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) delivered a scathing assessment: “Kristi Noem has been a complete and total failure at her job. She has violated her oath and has allowed ICE agents to terrorize our communities.”

The bill’s cosponsors span the ideological spectrum of the Democratic Party, from moderates to progressives, signaling unified opposition to Noem’s leadership and the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.

The impeachment effort—while largely symbolic under current Republican control of the House—serves as a powerful midterm rallying cry. Democrats need a net gain of just a handful of seats to flip the chamber, opening the door to investigations, subpoenas, and potential impeachment proceedings against Noem or even Trump himself.

With the GOP majority already fragile (218-213 following recent vacancies), the Minneapolis shooting and subsequent incidents have given Democrats a potent issue to mobilize voters, particularly in competitive districts where concerns about federal overreach and civil liberties resonate strongly.

Republicans have defended Noem’s leadership as necessary for national security and immigration enforcement, dismissing the impeachment push as partisan theater. The White House has not issued a formal response to the articles.

Growing Calls for Oversight and Reform

The impeachment measure has amplified demands for congressional oversight of ICE, including: Independent investigations into the Good shooting, reforms to use-of-force policies, greater transparency in enforcement operations and limits on federal deployments in local jurisdictions.

Civil rights organizations, immigrant advocacy groups, and local leaders have also joined the chorus, calling for federal accountability and an end to what they describe as militarized immigration enforcement in American communities.

The impeachment articles against Kristi Noem have become a defining moment in the battle over immigration policy, executive power, and accountability as protests continue in Minnesota and Democratic momentum builds nationwide.

Whether the measure advances in the current Congress or serves as a blueprint for a Democratic majority in 2027, it has ensured that Noem’s tenure—and the deadly consequences of her department’s actions will remain at the center of the national conversation heading into the midterms.

For Democrats, it is a call to action; for Republicans, a warning of the political price of unchecked enforcement. The fight over Kristi Noem’s leadership is only beginning—and it is already reshaping the 2026 electoral battlefield.
