Dad tries to frame his in-laws after fatally poisoning his wife, then recently tainted his daughter’s drink

A former paramedic from North Carolina, Joshua Lee Hunsucker, who previously gained attention after being accused of fatally poisoning his wife with Visine in 2018 and quickly having her cremated, is now facing new allegations.

This time, he’s suspected of tampering with his daughter’s drink using eye drops, allegedly as part of a plot to shift blame for his wife’s death onto his in-laws. Hunsucker, now 39, was taken into custody in Gaston County on Tuesday after being indicted on charges of witness intimidation and obstruction.

These new charges come as Special Prosecutor R. Jordan Green and District Attorney Travis Page are seeking to revoke the bond that allowed him to be released from jail just before Christmas in 2019.

The case dates back to September 2018 when Hunsucker’s wife, Stacy, who was 32 years old and the mother of two daughters, died from what initially appeared to be a cardiac arrest at their home in Mount Holly.

Stacy, who had a pacemaker, was believed to have died from natural causes related to her heart condition. However, suspicions arose due to Hunsucker’s behavior following her death.

He reportedly pushed for no autopsy and arranged for Stacy’s cremation to happen quickly. But because Stacy was an organ donor, a blood sample was taken, revealing alarmingly high levels of tetrahydrozoline, the active ingredient in eye drops.

Further adding to the suspicions, Hunsucker was reported to have moved a new girlfriend into the house shortly after Stacy’s death, which concerned his co-workers.

Additionally, Stacy’s mother, Suzie Robinson, raised her own suspicions after learning that Hunsucker had attempted to claim $250,000 from a life insurance policy.

In December 2019, over a year after Stacy’s death, Hunsucker was charged with insurance fraud and first-degree murder. He posted a $1.5 million bond and was released from jail just before Christmas that year, with his defense attorney, David Teddy, vowing to vigorously fight the charges.

However, the situation has escalated with these new charges, which allege that Hunsucker engaged in a series of retaliatory actions against his in-laws, John and Suzie Robinson, in 2023.

Prosecutors claim that Hunsucker went to great lengths to frame the Robinsons, including faking his own kidnapping and accusing John Robinson of being the culprit.

He is also accused of sending the Robinsons a threatening package, following them to church and lacrosse practices, and even causing his daughter to be hospitalized by allegedly poisoning her drink with eye drops.

This last act was purportedly an attempt to make it appear that the grandparents had tried to harm the child in the same manner that Stacy had been killed.
