Dad murders son, watches ‘religious videos’ for 12 hours before calling the Cops
John F. Gustites, a 67-year-old father from Pennsylvania, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his son, 42-year-old John A. Gustites, following an argument over the family vehicle.
Authorities say that after the fatal shooting, the elder Gustites waited 12 hours to call 911 while watching “religious videos.”
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the father woke up between 8 and 9 a.m. after hearing his son chasing a cat in his room. According to court documents, the elder Gustites entered his son’s room to retrieve the cat. This sparked a heated argument after the son demanded the family car.
During the altercation, the elder Gustites allegedly retrieved a .357 Magnum revolver and returned to his son’s room. When the younger Gustites brandished a screwdriver, his father shot him in the head.
Instead of immediately contacting authorities, Gustites contemplated suicide. He later told investigators that he chose to watch religious videos instead, which eventually led him to call the police. He called 911 around 8 p.m., roughly 12 hours after the shooting.
East Union Township Police Chief Chris Dimmick responded to the call at the family’s home on Franklin Street. When he arrived, he found the elder Gustites sitting on the porch. Inside, officers discovered the son dead from a gunshot wound to the face.
Gustites told investigators that he didn’t recall pulling the trigger but acknowledged that he must have, based on his son’s condition. He also mentioned hearing his son make a “gurgling” sound, which indicated to him that his son had died.
