Dad ‘couldn’t take it anymore’ and choked toddler to death with his two hands for ‘not listening’: Police

Nathaniel Lee Edmonds, a 24-year-old father from Virginia, has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly strangling his 1-year-old son, according to police in Front Royal.

The tragic incident unfolded on September 18, when the boy’s mother returned home from work to find her son unresponsive in his bed, with Edmonds nowhere to be found.

Police responded to a call around 2:40 p.m. about a child in cardiac arrest at a home on North Royal Avenue. Medics from Warren County Fire & Rescue transported the boy to Warren Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities later found Edmonds walking along U.S. 522 North after tracking his phone’s location.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Edmonds confessed to strangling his son because the child “was not listening” and “he couldn’t take it anymore.” He admitted to choking the boy with both hands for “several minutes” and saw the child “foaming at the mouth.”

The boy’s name has not been publicly released, and police have provided limited details due to the ongoing and sensitive nature of the case.

The police are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Front Royal Police Department at 540-636-2208.
