Dad Charged With Murder After Teen Son Fatally Shot Four People with AR-15 Style Riffle He Gifted Him for Christmas

54-year-old Colin Gray, the father of the alleged teenage gunman responsible for a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, has been arrested.

He faces charges including four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced. This comes after his 14-year-old son, Colt Gray, was charged with murder for killing four people during the school shooting.

The charges against Colin Gray stem from his decision to purchase the AR-15-style rifle used in the massacre as a Christmas gift for Colt in December, just months after authorities had investigated the family following FBI tips about online threats involving school shootings.

Despite concerns raised at the time, Colin assured police that Colt did not have unsupervised access to the firearms in their home.

On Wednesday, Colt shot and killed two fellow students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, as well as two teachers, 39-year-old Richard “Ricky” Aspinwall and 53-year-old Christina Irimie, at Apalachee High School.

Nine others, including seven students and two teachers, were injured but are expected to recover, according to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.

Colt was charged with four counts of felony murder after surrendering to school resource officers. GBI Director Chris Hosey said investigators have a long way to go before the case is fully resolved.

Colt’s troubled background has also come to light, with neighbors and family members detailing a history of abuse and neglect. His mother, Marcee Gray, has a lengthy criminal record, a drug addict and the children were reportedly living in poor conditions, often wearing dirty clothes and going hungry.

Colt’s aunt, Annie Brown revealed that he had been struggling with mental health issues and had been “begging for help” prior to the tragedy.
