Chaotic moment as man tries to sleep with flight attendant, then opens exterior plane door mid-flight
A flight from Seattle to Dallas ended in an emergency landing in Utah after a New Jersey man consumed excessive weed edibles, attempted to have sex with a flight attendant, and open the plane’s door mid-flight.
26-year-old Eric Nicholas Gapco from Delanco, was charged for his unruly behavior on American Airlines flight 2101 on July 18, as announced by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
Gapco, shirtless and vaping, began making advances toward a crew member and propositioning her for sex. After consuming ten marijuana edibles, he allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and repeatedly tried to open the aircraft’s exterior doors.
Video footage shows Gapco, bare-chested, shouting “I am sane” as crew members attempted to calm him.
Refusing to comply with instructions to take his seat, Gapco was restrained with hand and foot shackles by the flight attendants, prompting the captain to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City.
During the flight, Gapco also allegedly attempted to hand another passenger a bag of unidentified pills. Gapco denied using illegal drugs but admitted to consuming approximately ten marijuana edibles without knowing their potency, according to court documents.
Upon landing at Salt Lake City International Airport, he was arrested after breaking a glass door and spitting on an officer. Prosecutors noted that he remained belligerent and combative with medical staff and law enforcement.

The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and the Salt Lake City Police Department are now investigating the incident.
