Brother and sister press charges against each other after a kitchen rage incident

A chicken cooking session turned into a bizarre and violent brawl for a family in South Carolina.

The altercation led to charges for both 27-year-old Anothony Harper and 25-year-old Hope Harper. Anthony faces charges of second-degree and third-degree assault and battery, while Hope is charged with third-degree assault and battery, as confirmed by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident, which took place on a Sunday, revolved around a disagreement over how to season the chicken. The incident report showed that deputies were called to a house on Cody Lane after receiving reports of a fight. The argument reportedly began when Hope questioned Anothony’s cooking skills, asking why he hadn’t seasoned the chicken properly to get a good crust.

Anothony, defending his culinary skills, claimed that his grandmother was going to season the chicken. This led to Hope calling him a “dumb dog,” which allegedly prompted Anothony to push her into a kitchen table and punch her repeatedly.

The situation calmed temporarily when a third person intervened by firing a 9 mm handgun into the ceiling to stop the fight. However, the temporary truce did not last. Hope then chased Anothony around the house with a steak knife, forcing him to seek refuge at his grandmother’s bedroom door. The grandmother emerged with a broom, swatting at Hope until she put the knife down.

Despite the intervention, the conflict reignited when Anothony sprayed Hope with Raid insecticide, leading her to retaliate by spraying him back.

When deputies arrived, both Anothony and Hope insisted on pressing charges against each other. Authorities complied with their requests, arresting both that night. They were released on bond on Tuesday.

The odd and intense altercation underscores how quickly domestic disputes can escalate into violence, even over something as mundane as cooking preferences.
