Before his death, Epstein called Trump ‘borderline insane’ and questioned if he had ‘early dementia’: Emails
Washington, D.C. – A trove of Jeffrey Epstein documents released by the House Oversight Committee on November 12, includes emails where the convicted sex offender questioned President Donald Trump’s mental acuity, calling him “borderline insane” and suggesting “early dementia,”per CNN
The 20,000 pages, shared by Republicans after Democrats highlighted three specific exchanges, paint a picture of Epstein’s evolving view of Trump as the president’s political rise unfolded. The release, amid Trump’s second term, has reignited demands for full transparency, with the White House dismissing the files as a “Democrat hoax.”
The Newly Released Documents
Republicans on the committee posted a link to the files on X, writing, “Democrats whine about ‘releasing the files,’ but they only cherry-pick when they have them to generate clickbait. You deserve the full truth.” The larger dump follows Democrats sharing three emails focusing on Trump’s relationship with Epstein.

In the files, Epstein, once Trump’s friend, spoke negatively of him. A 2015 email to a New York Times reporter claimed Epstein had “photos [sic] of donald and girls in bikinis in my kitchen” and alleged he “gave” a 20-year-old girlfriend he dated for two years to Trump in 1993. Trump turned 49 in June 1995, when Epstein alleged dating the then-22-year-old woman.
Shortly after Trump’s January 2017 inauguration, another email to a New York Times reporter discussed Trump’s “Muslim ban”: “IT helps as he is seen to be keeping his word, it is importnat [sic] with putin and north korea… that being said Donald is f—— crazy I told you that.”
In 2018, Epstein questioned if Trump showed “early dementia” referencing Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury: A reporter said Trump was “looking/sounding increasingly unhinged”; Epstein replied, “no questions donalds statement is goofy. . early dementia?”
On March 24, 2018, Epstein emailed former White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler about a Daily Beast article on Trump’s “Psychiatric Breakdown”: Ruemmler called it “not confidence inspiring”; Epstein wrote, “but — accurate.”
On August 23, 2018, Epstein emailed Ruemmler about Trump’s hush money payment to Stormy Daniels: “You see , i know how dirty donald is.”
On December 22, 2018, Epstein insulted Trump to former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers: “Trump — borderline insane.” It wasn’t clear what sparked the insult. He also referred to Trump as “borderline insane” to attorney Reid Weingarten, claiming it was “corroborated by some that are close.”
The initial three emails released by Democrats on November 12, had Epstein alleging Trump “knew about the girls.” In a January 31, 2019, email to Wolff, Epstein addressed reports of being kicked out of Mar-a-Lago: “Trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever. . of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop.”

White House Response
On November 12, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement: “The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and ‘couldn’t have been friendlier’ to her in their limited interactions. The fact remains that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre.”
On November 13, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson added: “These emails prove literally nothing. Liberal outlets are desperately trying to use this Democrat distraction to talk about anything other than Democrats getting utterly defeated by President Trump in the shutdown fight. We won’t be distracted, and the entire Administration will continue fulfilling the promises the President was elected on, including Making America Affordable Again.”
Epstein, who died via suicide in a jail cell in New York City’s Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019, pleaded not guilty to one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors in July 2019.
The Epstein files contain documents related to his criminal cases, and Trump campaigned on releasing them. However, he has since backtracked and referred to the files as a “hoax” on Truth Social.
The data dump comes as members of the public and Congress continue the demand the release of the Epstein files.
The files could prompt further House Oversight hearings, with Democrats pushing for unredacted release by December 2025.
