Man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in Home Depot over a false belief that she gave him an STD
Keith Eric Agee, a 21-year-old man from Alabama, is serving a life sentence for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 18-year-old Brooklyn Taylor Sims, at a Home Depot in Pensacola, Florida, on August 11, 2023.
Sims, who worked as a contract employee at the store, was the mother of Agee’s two-year-old daughter.
The killing stemmed from Agee’s false belief that Sims had given him a sexually transmitted disease, a claim prosecutors disproved with medical records.
In the weeks leading up to the crime, Agee’s mother, Sheila Agee, 51, a co-worker of Sims, played a pivotal role in encouraging the act. Text messages revealed she urged her son to kill Sims, even sharing Sims’ location.
“Ok I’ll call you and tell you mf if you want to go to jail I’ll tell you when we get close but if you don’t come kill her you a mf b–ch,” she wrote in a text, according to deputies in Escambia County, Florida. “Don’t call nanny and tell her she will try and talk you out of it.”
On the day of the shooting, Keith entered the store and fatally shot Sims in aisle 52. He fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities, calling 911 and complying with police during his arrest.
Keith Agee confessed during his trial that the murder was premeditated, though his defense sought a lesser charge by framing the shooting as impulsive.

The jury was unconvinced, convicting him of first-degree murder.
Sheila Agee is charged with principal to first-degree murder and allegedly facilitated the crime. She was scheduled for trial in November 2023, but a mistrial was declared after a juror was caught doing crossword puzzles during deliberations.
Her retrial is set for February 5, 2025.
