Woman run over on purpose by child’s father as daughter, neighbors watch in horror: Police

A Florida man, 32-year-old Edwin Amaya, has been charged with the murder of 29-year-old Brenda Hernandez Amaya, the mother of his child, after allegedly running her over with his pickup truck in front of their daughter and horrified neighbors in Pompano Beach.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the 100 block of S.W. Eighth Street, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

When authorities arrived, they found two victims: Brenda, who was critically injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital, and a 32-year-old man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that Edwin and Brenda were arguing over their 2-year-old son in the parking lot of the apartment complex. During the confrontation, Edwin allegedly backed up his Ford F-250 truck before driving forward and deliberately running over Brenda.

The male victim attempted to cling to the truck in “hope” to stop Edwin but fell off. After the incident, he crashed into parked cars while fleeing the scene. He fled on foot but was apprehended by police nearby.

Brenda leaves behind two other children, including a 10-year-old daughter who witnessed the incident. Family members expressed their devastation, with the young daughter stating, “I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t talk. I went downstairs; I started running.”

Neighbors reported that Edwin appeared intoxicated at the time of the incident. He is facing a premeditated murder charge and is being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
