Math teacher admits having ‘sexual relationship’ with teen boy, leaving claw marks on his back as other students served as lookouts

A Missouri math teacher, Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, is likely facing prison time after admitting to having an illegal sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, with other students allegedly serving as lookouts.

Clifton-Carmack, a teacher at Laquey High School, was arrested earlier this year when one student reported the affair to a school resource officer. The student provided police with a photo of scratches on the boy’s back, reportedly from one of their sexual encounters.

On Friday, she pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual contact with a student, a plea deal that could result in up to four years in prison. As part of the deal, she avoided facing more serious charges like statutory rape, child molestation and child endangerment.

Clifton-Carmack is currently on house arrest until her sentencing in October 11.

The sexual relationship between Clifton-Carmack and the student first came to light in December 7, 2023, when a witness reported seeing inappropriate behavior. The witness also told authorities that Clifton-Carmhad had previously been warned about her conduct with students, often dressing in revealing clothing that drew attention.

Upon questioning, Clifton-Carmack initially denied the allegations. However, when police asked if they could check her phone, she willingly surrendered it, like someone who had nothing to hide or had done nothing wrong. Police searched her phone and discovered text messages and discussions about the sexual encounter between her and the boy. They also found a near-nude photo she had sent to the boy.

Just before Christmas, she reportedly left for Texas to visit family, but her roommates indicated she had moved away permanently.

The Garden Ridge Police Department in Texas arrested her in January and charged her with multiple offenses, including first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree statutory rape, sexual contact with a student, and fourth-degree child molestation.

Adding to the controversy, the victim’s father, Mark Creighton, faces felony charges for allegedly knowing about the sexual relationship and failing to report it.

Creighton was also arrested in January on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child after another witness said they told the teen’s father about the teacher’s actions.

Creighton told the witness that he knew his son and his teacher had “used students as lookouts while they had sex during school,” the affidavit said. The witness told the father she was going to come forward with the information, and he allegedly responded, “they are going to do it behind my back so I may as well let it happen.”

His case is reportedly on hold until after Clifton-Carmack’s sentencing.
