Prominent Colorado Attorney Sentenced to 12 Years to Life for Multiple Sexual Assault Convictions
Matthew Zick Krob, 42, a prominent attorney in Colorado now faces the possibility of spending decades in prison following his conviction on multiple felony charges.
In May, Krob was found guilty of five felony counts, including two counts of sexual assault, two counts of unlawful sexual contact and second-degree assault involving attempted strangulation.
He was also convicted of two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault and obstructing telephone service, according to records from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, Krob was sentenced to 12 years to life in prison by a Douglas County judge during an emotional sentencing hearing.
The charges stem from a sexual assault that occurred on November 20, 2022, at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Larkspur, a cabin, camping and RV park resort near the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, west of Colorado Springs.
Police received a 911 call around 4 a.m., but the call was disconnected, and subsequent callbacks went unanswered or went to voicemail. Douglas County deputies arrived at the scene and found the victims in a cabin with blood on their chest and bed. The victims told deputies that Krob had sexually assaulted them following an argument earlier that night.
During the sentencing hearing, Krob’s victims delivered impact statements, describing the harrowing experience of being kept prisoner and tortured for hours. They expressed the lasting trauma, stating that the “sounds from that night will never leave.”
Krob remained silent throughout the hearing.
Krob’s brother and father, who is also an attorney, spoke in his defense, describing the allegations as completely out of character for Krob and attempting to portray him as a person of high integrity.
Despite their efforts, the judge sentenced Krob to a minimum of 12 years before he becomes eligible for parole.
Krob’s fall from grace marks the end of a career spent in various publicly funded attorney positions across Colorado. He served as the municipal prosecutor for Salida, Colorado, starting in December 2019, and later as the city attorney in Florence, Colorado.
In March 2022, Krob was fired by the Florence City Council, a week after a news report linked him to a sexual harassment scandal involving the city’s then-manager.
Despite his firing, Krob continued working in public service. In January 2020, Palmer Lake hired Krob’s law office to provide municipal expertise after several employees were dismissed.
Krob, along with his father, served as municipal attorneys for nearly four years before Krob resigned in December 2022. His father then stepped back into the role.
