Father feeds 4-month-old son gasoline in an attempt to kill the baby

A 24-year-old father in Texas, Edgar James Bridgemon, is facing an attempted capital murder charge after allegedly giving his 4-month-old son gasoline to drink with the intent to kill him.

Bridgemon is currently in detention in Paris, Texas, and is being held on a $255,000 bond.

In addition to the attempted capital murder charge, he is also facing a charge of evading arrest.

Deputies from the Paris Police Department responded to a home on Pine Bluff Street on August 10, where emergency responders were already on the scene.

Authorities learned that Bridgemon had intentionally given the infant gasoline to drink and then fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended just a block away from the scene.

Bridgemon admitted to police that he had given the gasoline to his son with the “intention of ending the child’s life. “Bridgemon admitted” to having given the infant gasoline to drink with the intention of ending the child’s life,” said Paris Police spokesperson Capt. John Bull.

The infant was taken to a medical facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for treatment. The extent of the child’s injuries and current condition have not been disclosed.

If convicted of the attempted capital murder charge, which is a first-degree felony in Texas, Bridgemon could face up to life in prison.

The district attorney’s office in Lamar County has not yet commented on the case, and as of Monday, charges related to the alleged attempted murder have not appeared on the criminal docket.
