3 men sexually assaulted woman at gunpoint and forced her boyfriend to ‘watch the attack’: Police

Three men in Georgia have been found guilty of raping a woman at gunpoint and forcing her boyfriend to “watch,” before robbing the couple in a brutal attack that took place in 2021.

The men, 21-year-old Daquain R. Livingston, 20-year-old Elijah Nil Curney and 18-year-old Dashawn Andrettie Harris, were convicted by a Gwinnett County jury on Friday of rape, aggravated sodomy and armed robbery. Curney also received an additional conviction for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The announcement of their conviction was made by Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson, who described the crime as “despicable” and emphasized that the trauma the victims endured was “unimaginable.”

The attack occurred on July 21, 2021, in the parking lot of The Falls at Gwinnett Place apartment complex. Around 2 a.m., the three men, along with another person who had already been convicted, approached the victims—a couple whose cars were parked next to each other.

The attackers held the couple at gunpoint, separating the woman from her boyfriend. While one of the men held a firearm to the male victim, forcing him to watch, the other assailants brutally assaulted the woman.

During the assault, one of the attackers threatened to “blow her brains out” if she tried to retaliate. After the rape, the men stole items from both victims’ vehicles before walking away, leaving the couple to flee in different directions on foot.

Both victims called 911 to report the assault and robbery. When police arrived, they found that other cars in the area had also been broken into, and one vehicle’s owner reported a handgun had been stolen.

Investigators used descriptions of the attackers to identify two of the men—specifically noting the height difference between Curney, who stood at 5 feet, 4 inches, and Livingston, who was over 6 feet tall and wore red jogging pants. This information helped law enforcement locate footage from a Ring doorbell camera, which captured the suspects just before the attack.

Further evidence was uncovered through a rape kit, which matched Curney’s DNA, and fingerprints from the victims’ vehicles, which identified Harris. About a month after the attack, police stopped a vehicle in which Curney was a passenger. Inside the vehicle, officers found the handgun that had been stolen from one of the vehicles during the assault.

When questioned by investigators, Curney admitted to being present during the rape and partially identified his co-defendants.

Further investigation into Curney’s phone revealed frequent communication and social media connections with Harris, solidifying the link between the attackers.

The prosecutors noted that Curney’s admission, combined with the DNA and fingerprint evidence, played a significant role in securing their convictions.

Livingston, Curney and Harris are scheduled to be sentenced on October 28.
