Man who beheaded his newlywed wife and tossed her head into the shower learns his fate
A Texas man who brutally murdered his wife just months after their wedding has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
23-year-old Jared James Dicus faced trial for the shocking crime, which ended in a guilty plea for the murder of his 21-year-old wife, Anggy Diaz.
The trial concluded on Wednesday, over a year after Dicus beheaded Diaz in their home near Magnolia, a town outside of Houston. Dicus’s earliest opportunity for parole will not come until 2043.
Authorities discovered Diaz’s mutilated body in January 2023, lying in a pool of blood after being repeatedly stabbed. Her severed head was found in the shower. The couple had only been married since October 2022, a union that surprised many of their friends and family.
Following the gruesome act, Dicus confessed to the murder, as reported by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office last year.
“Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence. Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered,” stated Waller County District Attorney Sean Whittmore. “We will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the perpetrators that here, we fight for our victims.”
The plea agreement reached with Dicus precludes him from appealing the verdict and sentence. This deal was made after Dicus was found competent to stand trial, despite initial questions regarding his mental capacity. Prosecutors also consulted with Diaz’s family before finalizing the agreement, ensuring their involvement in the process.
