Janesville woman will spend 20 years in prison, Judge rules
A Janesville woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in decades-long child sexual abuse, according to the Rock County District Attorney’s Office.
Kelly Markham, 53, was convicted of allowing and participating in the sexual assault of her children and other family members over a span of 30 years. Prosecutors say she stood by as the abuse occurred and, at least once, actively took part.
Assistant District Attorney Alex Goulart pushed for the maximum 20-year sentence under the old law, describing the Markham home as a “house of horrors.” Judge Ashley Morse agreed, rejecting the defense’s request for a 10-year sentence.
Upon her release, Markham will be required to register as a sex offender for life. Her husband, Spencer Markham, 57, was previously sentenced in November 2024 to 30 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision.
District Attorney Jason Sanders praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward years later, saying, “Some crimes are too heinous not to seek a maximum sentence.” He also commended the efforts of prosecutors and victim advocates who helped bring the case to justice.
