'Yellowstone' Sequel Confirmed - Fans Shocked by Major Casting News

The popular TV series Yellowstone has been making headlines for several reasons, including its scheduling and its upcoming sequel. Reports reveal that the show’s final episodes will air in November after a prolonged scheduling conflict with the star Kevin Costner.

The mastermind behind Yellowstone is at it again with a sequel confirmed to debut in December, promising to pick up where the original leaves off.

A sequel to the most-watched show on broadcast and cable television has been confirmed. The sequel will be named Yellowstone and will stream on Paramount+. The still-untitled sequel is expected to be a significant boost for the service, which has 60 million subscribers and will operate outside the confines of the previous streaming rights deal with NBCUniversal.

According to sources, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star in the sequel, though no casting details have been confirmed. The franchise’s mastermind Taylor Sheridan, will produce the series and it is set to debut on Paramount Network in December. The sequel, like the original Yellowstone series will also be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

Chris McCarthy, the president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed confidence in the sequel’s success, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and the incredible casts that bring the shows to life. David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios added that they were thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences worldwide.

The show’s star, Kevin Costner is currently filming a Western passion project, Horizon, and has reportedly refused to work for more than a week on the back half of Yellowstone’s final season. The show’s cast and creators have been tight-lipped about the behind-the-scenes drama.

However, Paramount has confirmed that the final season will roll out in November without offering any insight into Costner’s participation. The last cycle of the series or season 5A continued to break records with the premiere drawing in more than 17 million viewers, an incredible achievement for a scripted cable series in 2023.

While the news of Yellowstone’s final season and sequel is exciting, it’s also a good thing for Paramount, which recently reported dismal first-quarter earnings. The series has been the cornerstone on which Paramount launched an entire universe of global hits including 1883 and Tulsa King.

McCarthy stated that Yellowstone would not have been what it is today without Kevin, and he hopes that it will stay that way for a long time to come. Regardless of Kevin’s return, Paramount was prepared to move forward with the spinoff. The fact that there is at least some version of Yellowstone still in the pipeline is a positive thing for the company.
